Beach Regulations

In the best interest of the public’s health, safety and welfare, as well as protecting the sensitive and natural environment of the beach, the following rules apply:

The following activities are permitted:

  • Vehicles on beach only for launching and retrieving small water craft
  • BBQ’s in small hand carried BBQ’s such as Weber’s (please no coal dumping) Effective 9/2/14: Due to the current drought conditions, wood and charcoal burning BBQs are not allowed at this time. Only gas/propane BBQs with active on/off controls may be used on District property.
  • Dogs allowed off leash (in control) on Olde Port Beach and Fisherman’s Beach

The following activities are permitted seasonally only:

  • Bonfires allowed on Olde Port Beach in District provided fire rings only (generally available from late spring thru Thanksgiving weekend. No treated wood, pallets or wood with nails in the fire rings)
    8/1/14 UPDATE: Due to California’s continued drought and the extreme-risk fire conditions, this year the fire rings on Olde Port Beach will be removed immediately following Labor Day weekend. Thank you for your cooperation – and here’s hoping for a wet winter!

The following are prohibited:

  • Alcohol or glass containers on the beach
  • Roping off areas
  • Large or deep hole digging
  • Portable dance floors
  • Amplified music and/or generators
  • Enclosed tents (portable pop-up canopy tents such as EZ-Ups are OK)
  • Cords running along beach, sea wall or revetment.
  • Confetti (including biodegradable), rice, or non natural material
  • Spot lighting
  • Black or gray water dumping
  • Dogs on Avila Beach from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily
